Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq.

Minister of State for Works, Federal Republic of Nigeria

Hon. Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq. was born on January 1, 1966, in Sabon Garin Dole, Goronyo Local Government Area, Sokoto State. Raised in a rural community where infrastructure was scarce but ambition was not, he developed an early resolve to serve — first through law, then through legislation, and ultimately through national public office. His academic journey spans decades of sustained pursuit. He holds an LLB from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (1997), was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2001, and went on to earn a Master's in Leadership and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, a Master's in Business Management and Leadership from London Graduate School, UK, and a Master's in Energy Security Management from the Nigerian Defence Academy. Before entering politics, Goronyo served as a Principal Orientation Officer with the National Orientation Agency (1993–2001), a legal translator with the Sokoto State House of Assembly, and a lecturer at the State College of Legal and Islamic Studies. He also practiced law with Adamu Umar & Co. and Rafi Law Chambers, Sokoto, bringing a grounded, practical understanding of governance and civic life. His legislative career began in 2007 when he was elected to the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Goronyo Constituency. Over two consecutive terms (2007–2015), he rose through the ranks as Deputy Leader, Minority Leader, and ultimately Deputy Speaker — earning a reputation as a measured and effective lawmaker. Following his legislative tenure, he was appointed Commissioner in the Sokoto State Government, serving across three ministries: Solid Minerals & Natural Resources Development (2015–2017), Energy Development (2017–2018), and Information (2018–2019). In 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him Minister of State for Works, where he has championed road infrastructure projects and rural connectivity across Nigeria.
